Work Experience:

Remote.com — Engineering Manager

Full-time, 2021 — Present

Engineering Manager (current role)

  • Led and scaled multiple engineering teams, including building new teams from scratch. Over 2 years, I directly managed 8 Team Leads and oversaw more than 25 skip-level reports. These teams had diverse responsibilities, including developing our public-facing marketing website (Growth team), building internal developer and operations tooling (Knowledge Database team), and delivering customer-facing product initiatives (Market Insights, Product-Led Growth, and AI & Knowledge Management teams).
  • Both as an Individual Contributor and a Manager, I interviewed over 200 candidates for roles including Frontend and Backend Engineers, Engineering Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and even Product Manager, playing a key role in scaling our engineering team from 15 to over 300 in less than 3 years. For more than a year, I served as the Hiring Manager and DRI for the Backend Elixir Engineer and Senior Backend Elixir Engineer pipelines, some of our most critical roles.

2023 — Present

Engineering Team Lead

  • Led the Knowledge Database and Product-Led Growth teams, working on internal developer and operations tooling in the former, and customer-focused initiatives in the latter. In this role, I split my time equally between individual contributor work (hands-on development and code reviews) and management responsibilities (line management, mentoring, project planning and delegation, and guiding team and product direction).
  • Managed and mentored 6 direct reports, including backend and frontend engineers of varying seniority. Responsibilities included providing regular feedback, writing performance reviews, guiding reports in their career progression, identifying opportunities outside of team-specific work, allocating engineering hours to those initiatives, and encouraging cross-team collaboration with adjacent teams or company-wide efforts.

2022 - 2022

Senior Frontend Engineer II

  • Worked on the Billing and Payments teams to develop critical automation tools, enabling our Employer of Record Payroll team to transition from an almost entirely manual monthly payroll process to a nearly fully automated one. This initiative laid the foundation for the company achieving an average payroll accuracy of 99.X% in the following months and reduced the time required to run payroll for our clients from several hundred hours per month (spanning multiple internal Payroll Specialists) to just dozens.
  • Worked on horizontal initiatives such as the company Design System, improving critical components with new functionality, UI and UX improvements, bug fixes, and increased testing coverage.
  • Developed features and components using React, Next.js, styled-components, React Testing Library, and Cypress for end-to-end testing.
